PEST is a testing framework for PHP, often used in the context of Laravel applications. It is designed to provide a more readable and expressive syntax for writing tests compared to traditional testing frameworks like PHPUnit. PEST PHP is built on top of PHPUnit and extends its functionality with a more human-readable syntax.
Oliver Nybroe was the creator and maintainer of the PEST plugin for PHPStorm. Until recently when JetBrains stepped in and is going to maintain the plugin.
The Pest plugin will be bundled with PhpStorm starting with v2023.3. It will be developed by JetBrains but stay open source.
